Star Tron

Which Star Tron do people use for fuel tank algae?
One of the diesel additives or the tank cleaner?

I plan on pulling the tank and cleaning out the screen.
Is using Startron just an extra to make sure the algae doesn't come back?
Or will it actually disintegrate the algae and clean out the tank screen for me?

You can get a bottle of BioCide from most car parts plases. It's in a white quart bottle from DieselKleen I think.

I didn't know Startron made anything other than an algae killer. Sounds like what you need is the tank cleaner. It's great... Never mind those other treatments.

Dieselkleen is not a bio-cide, it's a cetane boost/anti-gel product.

I went to the local marina to get some, I forget the brand.

I knew someone was going to respond with this. I'm not talking about the normal DieselKleen additive. DieselKleen is a trademark with more than one product. A bottle of their biocide runs above 30 bucks.

Evidently, the folks who created the Power Services website don't know that!!!

For ****s sake man, I'm just trying to help link a product which has worked for me. I have seven diesel engines to maintain. This product works well for me. How does that offend you? Was the exact photograph of the product not enough clarification for you? Sheesh.

I prefer Startron to the biocide. Startron is an enzyme that literally devours the gunk in your tank and turns it into particles small enough to pass through the fuel filters, only to meet their fiery demise in the engines combustion. With a biocide your likely to go through a number of filters as they clog with the residue of the deceased material.

If I ever suspect algea contamination I always drain and flush the tank. If it's easy, I'll remove and thoroughly clean the tank. I then use the biocide as a preventative measure along with new filters and fresh diesel. This works for me.

Startron for gasoline can be had at walmart. Not sure if it is the same product or not.

Well you can't go wrong with that process. But for many folks that's more work than they're willing to take on and Startron is an effective alternative.

Waste of time considering that you can simply dump the Startron in & drive. Change the filters if they are clogged. If not, just drive.

I have not needed to do anything as preventive regarding fuel for the SD. There have been a few times when the car sat quite a bit. It still ran fine. That's one of the great things about the 617.

The Startron diesel additive did a good job of clearing up my 240D when I first got it. I found it at West Marine.
