it depends on what the gasket manufacturer recommends. most say no treatments.

Dont do it. Most head gaskets these days have a factory silicone bead around all pertinent areas, or either the entire sealing surface is gummy or waxy. No need to spray anything on it. I know in the old days with solid copper head gaskets, the old timers would spray shellac, or some other sort of spray sealant to improve sealing.

No Sealant

I just did this. FSM says no sealant.
I used the Victor Reinz head gasket.
Don't open it up until right before you are ready to put it on
or it'll lose its sticky. I have heard Elring is another good brand.

I was watching one of the car shows the other day and they said to spray WD40 on the gasketed surface to prevent it from sticking. Anyone on here ever do that?

In regards to a head gasket I always try to make sure it is clean and there is nothing on the gasketed surface except for the gasket. I use RTV as applicable.

Thanks guys. I'll install it dry-it's a brand new Victor-Reinz. Once my triple square tool comes in I'll be reinstalling the head.

Hello, do you know where to get a M.L.S. gasket for a 617 turbo motor?
