Wink I Think I've been "Hosed"

So, my trip to the dealer this time for the E300, since it decided to fall apart this past week, included the O rings for the fuel lines and the primary filter (the little guy) and Desperate need of injector return lines! Lucky he had some in stock actually!! (he was supprised he had it too) So i bought one meter and now I'm just looking for some time (might take a day off) I can do this. So, I'm sitting here and, 1 Meter is 39.37 inches? right? I'm missing about 3 inches!! If it didn't cost $20 for this stupid crap I wouldn't of thought twice. Think I can get those other 3 inches

(probably sounding like a real cheapskate about now Plus, I need to buy more anyway, why they have it, to put on the 240D's... its about time.

I bought my return lines from the dealer and they had them in stock but had no fuel filter. I didnt think to measure them but I have extra left over.

Sounds like the parts guy sells by the meter and measures by the yard.

Actually last time I bought some they did the same to me. Maybe it's some parts joke we owners don't get....

When I order the return lines and plastic vacuum line over the web I usually get 3 or 4 inches over the measure.

With dealerships I have also had such an experience.

There's a Russell Peters joke in there somewhere. Dealers sell hose by the meter and bean counters space the big filter so you need 42" of hose.

Now that you mention it, to be fair I that has happened to me as well....

It just occurred to me that I have actually seen parts guys 'measure' by using the arm-length trick (put the roll under the armpit and spool it out to the wrist).

If this is how it's done, make sure to always deal with the tallest parts guy

Buy from this site. I haven't measured length but the roll received was always sufficient & much less than $20. I think ~ 50%. Get an order above $100 & get free shipping. Seeing the UPS pkg is almost as good as Christmas.

During the christmas season we had a tree outside the town home on the porch decorated and etc. I had a ton of packages all coming to me one day.. The UPS guy and FEDEX both put all of my packages under the tree.. One even had a bow on it..

Should have taken a picture.

I just buy the 1/8" fuel line from Oreally's and that's always done the trick. I know it's not the OE solution but it's readily available and I don't have to drive out to the burbs to visit the dealer. It's also much less expensive IIRC. I always have 3-4' coiled up out in the garage.

I get the Viton stuff from Greaseworks

I usually get 20 ft or so. Have lots on hand since I have lots of vehicles & cycle through lots of it , was about $60 last time I got it, was actually cheaper than Mcmaster Carr. Cheers Dan
