Anyone familiar with 1986 300D?
The 1986 300D doesn't seem to show up on the various model/chassis charts out there. I gather it's a 124 with a non-turbo 603, sold in Europe but not in the US. Is that correct?
Friend of mine says there's one available down the street from him, 160,000 miles, needs nothing, light yellow, asking $3500.

Just a guess.
Provided if the information you have is correct, could it be a European Delivery car?

According to the "Russian EPC", it is European only. You might like this page.

Depending on the market and when it was first registered, it could be a 123 or 124. If it's a 124, it could be a turbo.

Sounds like it's German Taxi Yellow. I drove one of these once, it seemed to move ok.

could be....
It could be an 85, but first registered in 86. I've owned cars like that. You won't know until you go look at it. Everything else is pure speculation.

Spoke to the owner. It is in fact the 603 engine and has the turbo. He's the second owner, so Euro delivery in 1986 sounds likely.

Ask for the VIN. US VIN will begin with WDBEB33, Euro VIN may or may not have the WDB prefix followed by 124133. More likely to be a straight Euro than Euro delivery if it's an '86 model. I'll be very envious of the buyer if it has manual AC controls and velour upholstery.
