Theres one like that over here by me...and I would love love to have it....though I can't justify spending 5k on it...

Like visiting a museum, they are cool to look at and romanticize about what you could do....but when it comes down to brass tacks.....

Yep, I told my friend who looked at it. That it would be cheaper to buy one in Germany and have it imported

They have those funky intake manifolds to fit in the doghouse. I believe the standard Australian phrase to describe them is: "So gutless they can't pull a skin off a rice pudding."

Seems like doing anything to the engine would be a bit tricky.

Technically, I don't think that is a Mercedes. It is a Hanomag.

Sorry to disagree but I think the contemporary hanomags were front wheel drive and used mb diesels.

The above is a link to a picture of a hanomag dinky toy. That is how I remember the hanomags looking. Not nearly as nice looking as the (relatively) graceful mercedes fensterbus.
