190D starter repair manual online?
I guess the starter is out on my son's '87 190D. The solenoid clicks but starter won't turn. I got under the car5 and it looks like it will be an awful job getting the starter out. Is there a place on the net I can go to for instructions on removing the starter? Thanks......Arkie

I have not removed the starter on my 190D but I have done it a number of times on the 300SDL. 190D and 300SDL share the same engine series and the starter is identical so the procedure should be very similar. You need a good 17mm sockets to undo the 2 bolts - that is all there to it. The top bolt is a bit hard to get to. I always disconnect the negative battery cable on electrical stuffs.

Up on ramps
you may want to reconnoiter the top bolt access...
I had to use a 3 ft.3/8 drive extension to be able to break the bolt loose. Kroil,Kroil,Kroil. (And let those bolts soak overnight if possible.)

Once the starter is off the engine, move the steering from left to right to find a position that gives you enough clearance to extract the starter.

Finally got it off....
.....but I had to buy a pickle fork and take off the drag link from the pitman arm to get it to drop down. Tha whole job was pretty terrible, made worse by a 25 mph North wind and a chill temp of about 20 degrees. One reason it was so hard to get out is that the arm that connects the engine to the motor mount is BROKEN!! So the engine is an inch or two low on the drivers side. I posted today on this site to see if anyone has a used mount arm for me. Thanks for all the help, guys! ...................Dave from Arkansas
