W123 Door Striker Repair Kit

I just finished installing this door striker repair kit in my '82 300D. I highly recommend it to anyone else whose striker hard rubber parts are starting to crumble. Admittedly, the price is a little high for 4 pieces of plastic, but it certainly beats the alternative of buying new strikers.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

The hard rubber portion of the striker seems to succumb to the effects of age as well as wear, so the junk yard might not be a great option for replacement strikers.

Let us know how they hold up in a year. What was the wait for shipping from Thailand?

Wow that's not what I'd call expensive considering some of the prices I've come across.

Do you just drive that into the existing striker ?

I find that most items I get from anywhere in Asia take 8 to 12 days to my door.

The exception was a much waited for camera cable from Singapore which took 27 days ... grrrr.

I had good luck making the front half round piece and piece on the bottom out of polycarbonate. After I dremelled out slots for these inserts, I epoxied them in with Marine-Tex and used a #10 screw for the bottom piece.

This place also sells the cheapo exhaust hangers for $20/set. That's an amazing ripoff.

Tango, don't get me wrong, I really do want to know how these work for you long-term.

You have to remove the entire striker. (Mark two intersecting sides before removing.) Once the striker is off, the rubber insert pulls out. The insert consists of two components, one of which is reused. It's incredibly obvious when you have the striker in your hand.

For me, it was 12 days. However, parcels randomly selected for US Customs inspection can be delayed significantly beyond that.

How straight forward was the install? I love my W123 but HATE the way the doors DO NOT close easily without (to me seems like) slamming them.

The description was clearly not written by a native English speaker. Very funny.

Thanks for sharing this Tango !

It's very straight forward. Just a matter of removing the four striker screws, pulling the two rubber parts out of the metal housing and installing the new part along with the original soft rubber component. Just make sure to matchmark the original striker location; it is secured by a captive, floating nut plate and has a wide range of possible positions. (I used masking tape.) The only other possible complication would be seized fasteners and/or stripped internal hexes.

Mine was the same way, I loosened the four screws on the frame "catch", shuts fine now.
