Question 83 300D car locking vacuum issue

It is not an issue but I would like to run it by the forum anyway. My 83 300D central locking works on vacuum on lock and unlock lines and I observe the followings.

1) If I lock the car at work in the morning and when I leave work the vacuum holds and I can unlock the car. Or unlock/lock a few times until all vacuum are gone - normally I can do 5 times or more.
2) If I forgot to lock the car and when I go out for lunch then I cannot lock it. All vacuum is gone.

a) Is this normal or I have a slow leak on the unlock lines? It does not matter really but I am just interested. There is no need for me to fix it so to speak.

b) Has anyone T-ed a vacuum pump like the W126 into the W123 vacuum reservoir ( in the trunk ) so that one can lock and unlock infinitely number of times? I am thinking of doing it as a project when I am running out of fun stuffs to do.

2.a. Not normal, and yes you probably have a leak on the unlocked side of the circuit. Probably a pod or connector, might not be too hard to diagnose but probably tedious since you'd need to go through each pod one at a time.

You could probably add an electric pump with a trigger via a remote alarm; sort of like the electric activator for retro-fitting a wireless system into a W123.

Thanks Yak. This is what I figure but it is lucky that it is on the unlock line so it does not matter that much. I will make a note on my to-do list.

I have remote keyless entry on the 300D. It is just annoying if I need to get in and out of the car a number of times when it is parked then it may not lock on the last time. Or partially lock the car when it runs out of vacuum. I will get a vacuum pump from the JY and T it into the vacuum reservoir in the trunk. It should be very simple as I can trigger it when the remote control locks the car. It will be on my to-do list also.

If you just have to gain access to the car, use the passenger door, it won't activate the CL system.

If you had keyless remote, would you use your key? I am getting lazy with mod con.

You're asking the wrong guy on that one. I've never owned anything with keyless entry or a remote. I don't see it in my future, either.

Why? It only costs me less than $25 to install Keyless remote control. It is easily done if you do it yourself. I cannot do without Keyless remote in all my cars. I am sure your future is not so bleak?

I would like to think my future is far from bleak. As soon as the local body shop slows down in the spring I'll get the rest of the car painted and have a nice low mileage (123K) car that has already given me 7 years of good service. I expect many more. I just replaced the RR door as the original had a crease in it that the body shop didn't want to try to fix.
