Heater Cores & Evaporators - to r/r or not to r/r

I've read up on the boards here and found several posts saying the evaporators do not really go out that often...I've got a dash swap in the future and am wondering about the heater core...are they as tough or should I change it while I'm in there?

I don`t think there is a tear down of the W126 heater/ac box. but as old as your SD is, it is probably full of debris stuck to the evaporater etc. pull it apart and cleaning will make it more efficient.

Also good time to replace the vac pods and any door seals.
It will will be a job.

I have a w123 type 1 from a 240 tore down to clean and replace the door seals. was quite a bit of debrix stuck to the evaporator.

I've seen new heater cores caution that electrolysis from old antifreeze causes heater cores and similar parts to go bad. Since, I've been fanatical regarding coolant changes.

Destructions in with 1 new core said to measure coolant voltage (+ lead in coolant, ground other). Anything over .300 volts indicates the need to change coolant.

I think the sealing rings can go bad after many many years. The cores are steel (i think) and very rarely develop leaks.
