sealant when changing oil pan gasket
is it recominded to use a sealant when changing the oil pan gasket? mine seems to have a slight bleed through after changing it. but it might also be coming from greasy motor. but should i have done more than just replace the seal?

Was your oil pan beat up?

Curil-T.
A local commercial MB diesel rebuilder recommended it, specifically mentioning oil pans. I picked up a tube and am using it on my om603 assembly.

Should not be necessary at all if the pan is not warped. I used none and mine hasn't leaked a drop in 4 years.

Use Sealant and do the job once.
However, use only the minimum needed to do the job. You are best off if you use a liquid Sealant; if you use something like Silicon Sealant that squeezes out into areas be sure to wait what ever time the instructions say it takes for it to cure to decrease the chance of any of the squeezed out area from coming loose.
