99 E300TD Engine Value

A friend sent me an e-mail about this tonite. He has a '98 E300 diesel, with a '99 engine installed. This engine was installed with 100k under it's belt. The car's owner took the car after installation and totaled it after a week. Anyway, it's located in Sheffield, MA. Just thought I'd put it out for an estimate of the engine's possible value, and if anyone is interested.

Thanks!

Documented miles? under warranty? Depends on what he is selling with it too. Ie computer/harness/IP etc

If everything is documented (and I might be too high or too low with my prices) you could get 6-800 bucks for it, depends on the buyer, how fast he/she would like it sold etc It's worth whatever someone will pay for it but I would say in the range above.

I think they just want to get rid of the whole car. Kind of doubt there is any documentation, just the opportunity to hear the engine run. I suppose a serious buyer could check comp.

Will it run in its current smashed state?

And may I ask why the E300D is continuously labeled E300TD which doesnt exist here in the US ?

I would assume it could sell for its salvage value if not rebuildable. Given its age, rebuilding would be a labour of love for an otherwise perfect car. Makes no monetary sense for sure.

That looks very rebuildable from the frt to me,if the shock towers or the frt suspention are not comprimised it would be just sheet metal and rebuilding the core support area .I had a 300sd with a very similiar hit ,bought it for $500.The parts list were as follows, a junkyard hood ,fender ,frt valance ,radiator,a/c lines and condensor ,core support ,and lights it was generally a bolt off bolt on fix ,the only welding was to resupport a new core support ,oh , and replace some radiator lines with brand new ones.I even waited for the right color to show up at the yard so no repaint was rquired. It now was my labor with a final cost with car price around $1300. but it was a well serviced car with a brand new trannie ,if not I wouldnt have approached the job.He can always list it as rebuildable ,have a body man look at it and see whats in it to complete with just a parts list,it could strike the right persons interest.

My friend posted it to me as E300TD, and I gave up trying to figure out or caring what MB does and doesn't do in naming their cars anymore.

Here are more pics of the car.

I paid $3600 for a mostly complete '99 OM606 engine with 74k. It's currently sitting in my '87 300TD
