Tachometer Prewired?
Folks -
As I get ready for the arrival of the euro 300 TD/T, I wonder how hard it would be to retrofit a tach/clock unit in place of the *giant* clock.. Any thoughts or experience? Thanks! -Reed '84 300D/T 146,xxx '85 300TD/T Euro (in process...?) |

According to an old Chilton book I read it mentioned the availibity of aftermarket tachs. In a diesel there is no electrical impulses to measure so a tach must measure something else. In voltswagen rabbits it is the vibrations that are measured and translated into engine movements. In mercedes a connection to the oil pump drive is used.
It mentions the "Sun DTL timing light". You might try a web search on this name and see if you get anyting. It cost $610 in 1980 so the cost might be out of the question. Maybee ask a Mercedes mechanic if the tach from another mercedes model can be retrofitted into your. model. good luck Eric Z |
