Newbie owner 1995 e300

Hi everybody I just purchased a 95 e300! It has 135miles. It runs great but has bunch of problems that I've been fixing bit by bit.

It didn't start the day after I bought it! Turns out security module was acting up
fixed it by following Diy alarm removal and jumping k38 Thanks latief!

Driver side power window doesn't go down and passenger side rear window was dead. Solved it bye fixing the convenience module pcb, there was a burnt line.

Central lock wasn't working fixed by just removing fuse and putting back on, weird!

Trunk key tumbler was different from all tumbler. I had to repin the plug so I can use the original key. (I can make a DIY if anybody needs it)

ASD light on : not yet fixed I used carsoft but wont tell me asd error code..
ABS activates when nearing a complete stop even the road is dry: not yet fixed carsoft mentioned wheel sensor error
AC is not blowing cold: not yet fixed
Front flex disc very worn: parts ordered..

Now I have a few Q on naming parts:
What is this? is it for the ASD? its almost empty

Whats this empty fuse holder for?

Is this leaky thing an ASD diff?

Got to replace my front flex disc ASAP!

SLS level reservoir
diagnostic port, not a fuse, I think
leaking differential from either the vent, or an axle seal!
get OE or Lemforder NOT URO discs!!!

Yes, that is the reservoir for the MB hydraulic fluid for the ASD. Part number on the label. It should be filled almost to top. Can also use Febi hydraulic fluid. Nothing else. A 95 USA E300 does NOT have SLS, and SLS equipped wagons/E500E have that same reservoir.

That fuse is for the telephone or ASD. I'll have to check. It is NOT a diagnostic port.

Yes, your ASD diff is leaking.

Yes, replace that flex disc this weekend.

Thanks for pointing the parts name.
I guess I'll put a fuse there and see what happens
I'll fill that reservoir with the mb hydraulic fluid.
I have to do carsoft again for the asd cause I didnt know the engine has to be running to do the test.

Takes a 7.5amp red fuse.

Nice catch. Did it come from up north? It sure does look kinda rough compared to the mileage.

Thanks for the fuse value, so is it for the asd or the phone?
Yeah it came from upnorth michigan. Im going to coat the rusts underneath with por15 to protect it up here in Milwaukee.

Just confirmed that fuse is for the telephone. Ignition on, phone on, pull fuse, phone powers off and antenna retracts.

You do know that it is an analog phone, and so in our digital age is no longer useful

ASD on E300

You may already know this:

ASD Rear Traction Control- limited slip differential with 35% lockup under normal driving, and when rear wheel slip is detected, up to 100% lockup by hydraulic fluid activated control at speeds less than 15.5 mph. (Which means, if one rear wheel is spinning in snow or rain for example, the limited slip differential will apply 35% up to 100% power to the opposite wheel for improved traction to get unstuck or maintain stability in slippery conditions. A standard differential will not apply power to the opposite wheel).

So the ASD light on could mean a bad speed sensor on the diff, an unplugged or broken wire, or a bad ASD control module. Unplug the ASD module, clean the connection with contact cleaner, and plug back in.

Hopefully something simple, but non-functional ASD isn't going to be noticed until you get stuck in snow.

The clutches in the differential are most likely worn out given the age and the location of the car. GSXR did a write up on rebuilding his I think.

Thanks I guess thats the reason why it doesnt have a fuse in it and the phone is not in the car anymore. It would have been cool to have the phone for that nostalgic aesthetic

Nope I didn't know that thanks! I'm going to diagnose again and check those sensors. I checked the asd control module and the pcb components looks undamaged. I found an asd test procedure at:
Index of /docs/mb/W124
I hope its something minor.

I successfully did an ASD test using carsoft and it says that the stop lamp switch and right front speed sensor is bad. So I clean and tested the stop lamp switch and its good. Speed sensor was putting out 3-4.5v when spun clockwise. I guess I'll clean both speed sensor in front and buy a new stop lamp switch to solve the problem.

Why would you protect the rust?
Neutralize it.

LOL. first time I have ever heard it called "Rusts".
I believe any small or large amount of iron oxide is simply called "rust".
