Best ATF

Hey guys, so I need to top off the ATF in my car and I have a couple questions. For one, for the life of me I can't remember the exact brand or anything else about the fluid that I have in there. So is there a danger of like I dunno mixing two different kinds of fluids and messing it up?
Also, what brand/type of fluid is best to buy in your opinions?

Thanks much

Brand is irrelevant. If you're just topping off, any Dexron-III/Mercon compatible ATF is fine.

If you need to top off, then you've got some sort of a leak (unless you didn't drive it for a long period of time). At what rate is the level going down?

Hey thanks for the reply. It did sit for about a year. I've been driving it for about 4 months now and only just checked the level so I'm not sure if it's going down. It is having trouble shifting though and flaring a lot more than I'm comfortable with (not that I'm comfortable with any flaring.)

In that case just get the level correct and keep a close eye on it for a while. If you're driving it regularly (say, at least once a week), the level should not go down AT ALL.

How many miles on it? What's the maintenance history?
