Trunk Auto Close not working

I apologize ... I first posted this question in the Gas engine section. My first time on this forum. Wont happen again. Thanks for looking.

Hi All, I am brand new to the forum. Hope I'm in the right section. I've got a beautiful 2006 E320 CDi. It has about 95k miles and is in great condition. The other day, a friend got out of the car and retrieved something from the trunk. He did not push the red auto close button but instead, manually closed the trunk. Auto close has not worked since then. Here is what I've done to try to locate the problem. I disconnected the battery, waited, and then re-connected it. I checked every fuse I could find in the car. All are good. I removed the drivers side panel in the trunk and looked for any obvious damage or broken wires. None are visible. I put my hand on the black plastic (controller) box just behind the closer motor and I feel a slight click when I press the closer button. A friend put his finger on the motor gear and feels a slight movement when I press the button. That's all the tricks in my diagnostic bag. Could it be an auto reverse blockage (if there is one)? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Forum Gurus. It looks like almost every post gets some kind of answer. Anybody have an opinion on my issue. I could really use the help before I resort to taking it to the dealer. I'm pretty good with a wrench. Just need to be pointed in the right direction. Thanks.

This thread might help you out. It mentions some of the rear lamps being out, but yours might be just causing the trunk not to close. Hope this helps.

I think your car is too new for most members here.

I had the trunk auto close feature on my winter beater once, until I replaced the torsion springs.

I just did some searching, and don`t see anywhere this issue has come up.
I have seen some cars that the doors and or trunks sort of suck in. kind of cool, but thought at the time, something to go wrong down the road later on.

Hate to see you go to the dealer with this problem, probably be pricy

I agree with AH-KAY, most of us don`t own anything this new. and when the trunk needs to be closed, I just tell her to get out and shut it.

looking at my Signature, my front yard looks like a junk yard.

CAN the trunk be closed manually or is that a NO-NO?

Usually they can... At least that's the case on my Honda Odyssey.

Thanks Guys. It can be closed manually but it is difficult as you are fighting the non moving motor. I think I'll just take the motor out and try to test it. Don't know what success I'll have

You need SDS to properly diagnose it.

Wow... all this just to get the trunk to close properly. If they wanted to silence the trunk they could've just use the w140 auto close system... or a lot of other methods. Jeez. My 124 wagon has a soft close feature that still works.

I'm just guessing here... if you can open the trunk by using a key I suggest you try that first, maybe it will reset something in there.
