Quick Theory Question
So in diagnosing what is wrong with my car im at a loss. i guess this should have been one of the first things to ask myself though.
will a cracked head lead to a large lack of power? and can it mean no black smoke? (alda removed) i feel like i should still be able to get some smoke from it (if my head is cracked) because the black smoke is from over fueling correct? |
A cracked head will "generally' not manifest itself in a loss of power. The crack does not typically lower the compression in any cylinder to the point where a power loss is noticeable. The crack does allow oil to pass to the coolant or coolant to pass to the oil. This is undesirable due to the coolant having a detrimental effect on the journal bearings over time.
There are folks that can run a cracked head for 50K miles or more. The performance is not seriously affected and they simply need to add oil and/or coolant. The longevity of the engine will definitely be affected in a negative way. The removal of the ALDA may not result in excessive smoke if the driver is not a complete fool with the 603. The only place that smoke will be apparent is from a dead stop with your right foot mashed. Once the RPM's come up...........the smoke disappears. The smoke is not apparent from the driver's seat. You would need a vehicle to follow and observe. |
also, you may have still intact either the trapox, or the cat in the exhaust, it'll limit the black smoke (and power potential) from alda removal...

Maybe you just have a plugged fuel filter...

thanks alot guys. i figured that a cracked head shouldent ruin everything. i think after i swap in my new IP, injectors, and get it timed up it should be better.
even when i TRY to make it smoke there is none. had people watch absolutely nothing. also. there is no trap oxidizer on my car and i have an open down pipe. also. fuel filters are both sparkling clean, i checked / replaced both and checked the fuel tank strainer, that is not the issue. and also ran my car out of a by pass fuel tank that fed right to the engine. still the same issues. |
