No doubt the car will be totaled by the insurance company. The question will be whether you want to buy it back.

as a further comment, id definitely recycle that aluminum rim. I was reading about cast aluminum heat treating processes, and if anything could have been affected, it was probably that rim more than the steel.

Don't really know anything about aluminum processes, but with all the bundts kicking around in yards, id toss the one that was part of the fire, grab another one, and see if the fire affected the subframe. If we worry about anything being damaged by the head body wise, it should be the welded rear subframe on that side.

as a parallel, I once nearly burned my work van to the ground with an explosive engine fire, where the fire department and I were both convinced it was done completely, but I went through, did some rewiring, replaced damaged components, and about 500 bucks later, ive been using it daily since. that was over a year ago. I think that car is salvageable if you want to keep it.

the trim alone is gonna be pricey... x2 on the rims! all bushings and rubber pieces on that burned side need replacement, BONUS! in my mind, the price for all that repair is gonna exceed 5K...

My first thoughts are to try and keep the car and get it back to snuff. That all depends on what I find after further inspection and what washes out with the insurance. The shop is insured and I am confident it will be handled well.

If I keep it, that wheel is defintely going to be replaced. I couldn't trust it after the heat it took. Not sure of the other components in that corner of the car....again I'll have to take a closer look.

I agree the damages can rack up quickly into the thousands with paint, suspension, brakes and whatever else is needed. It was a very pretty car, nice straight body and paint and a very cool Henna interior. One owner relatively low mileage car. Not a perfect car but it was on its way.
