1993 W124.128 300D tie rod assembly broken

This is the result of corrosion seizure.

The wheel alignment shop tried to adjust this corroded assembly, with obvious results.

FYI: In most cases you will find it cheaper and easier to replace the assembly, rather than the individual pieces. :)

Nasty - glad it failed when it was being adjusted and not when it was being driven

I'm interested in knowing if its an aftermarket part or OE. Can you make out any markings on the ball cover?

Aftermarket or original. Depending on climate both can seize up and need heat to get moving for adjustment.

X2
It looks like the guy who did this used a pipe wrench (stillson). Probably a little heat would have loosened the adjustment thread without breaking it.
When faced with that sort of problem OEM or not does not normally enter the equation.
Likely that until Godzilla attacked it the ends were fine. Just the toe a bit out.

whunter ~ Oh the fun of fixing others F##K UPS !!!

I fail to understand how it broke where it did... please explain... I see no wrench marks on the adjuster flaps... nor on the grip tensioner... what am I missing?
