Testing OM603 head?
Hi Guys,
I have an 87 300D with an OM603 that got taken off the road as the list of required repairs badly exceeded the value of the vehicle. It was diagnosed with a cracked head by a non-MB mechanic. It is a casting #14 and the car did have overheating issue (due an Ex who didn't know what a low coolant light was.....) There are a couple local shops that can do pressure tests of cylinder heads for under $100. Would the average shop be able to confirm that the head is scrap? I'm prepared to spend a couple bucks to be 100% sure that the head is junk before I scrap it. Thoughts?

We can do it for you...........for free.
Thoroughly clean up the area around the valves with some scotchbrite and take a closeup photo of each of the "cylinders". We need to see the area between the valves and the prechamber. Post the photos on here or on a hosting site. Cracks to this cylinder head are usually quite obvious. |

will do Brian, Thanks. I haven't taken the head off - that'll be happening shortly. I made another post about the oil consumption on my 91 - trying to work through that also right now....
