sdl metal fuel line replacement...

on my 87 SDL... i have 'patched' the metal diesel lines 2 times (with rubber tubing slipped over cut out section)... well i have another leak and i have a rotting brake line im replacing as well as the 2 rubber exit/entry lines to tank and return. im thinking of replacing them with clear POLYETHYLENE tubing (sold at home depot, menards etc). not only is it signifigantly cheaper but more importantly i can see the fuel flow so ill know if i have an air leak or a clog. has anyone done something similar? i got tubing with a 3/8" ID (cant find 5/16" anywhere. i got a 3/8 barb into the new rubber tank fitting (bought those new genuine MB) and will use that to connect to the 3/8th polyethylene tubing. ill do something similar (barbs or compression fittings have to figure that out still) when it comes to the fuel filter. im having a hard time finding J30R9 (viton hose) for plumbing the IP/filter etc. Mcmaster no longer sells it and looking online neither does orielly, autozoo, advance (at least around me). im also cleaning the tank screen as a good measure. so here are my questions:

1: will 3/8" polyetylene tubing work as replacement diesel lines? (i cant find anything that says it wont)

2: where can i find or order viton J30R9 (most links in other threads are to biodiesel sites, some are dead links)

3: what size it the oring on the tank screen? yes its available on the forum parts store but its an .80 cent part... id rather not pay shipping on that. im thinking i can get it thru mcmaster or the hardware store... id like to source it before i finish getting it all torn apart.

Thanks,
Ron

People have been posting that the Fuel Injection Hose SAE J30R9 or 30R90 SAE 30R9 can be bought at regular parts places like Autozone. If not there NAPA (National Auto Parts).
Someone on eBay might even sell it.
The whole hose is not Viton, it lis lined with a materilal others said is the same as Viton and is called Fuel Injection Hose.

As far as other types of Hose material goes you simly need to look up a Hose company that sells that and there sould be a description of what it is made for and how much heat it can take and so on.

Your rotting brake lines, you will not replace them with rubber fuel line.

There is a trememdous amount of pressure in the lines when you apply the brake peddle. firt time you used the brakes, the hose will blow off, peddle will hit the floor, and you will be going for a wild ride. and hope you don`t kill some one or your self.

Fix it correctly with steel brake line with the propper fittings.

Do a search on replacing steel brake lines. here is one I found quickly
