Brian --- which 300SD did you do the following in?
I only own one 300SD, the '84, currently with 240K on the clock.

12.89 km per liter. Very impressive indeed. So there's something to those craigslist/ebay claims after all.

Over 5 or 6 full tanks (odometer mileage only) got 26.9 mpg on the '83 3.07 diff
Over 2 or 3 full tanks (odometer mileage only )got 25 mpg on the '85 2.88 diff

About 15/85 ratio city/highway. 60-75 mph

I wouldn't believe it either if I was reading it here. But, I can post the fuel receipts.............

An SD cannot continually get 30mpg. It's impossible.

I just checked out the Blue Point NY Craigslist, and there's an '84 SD listed on it. I wonder if it's Brian"s

The best I ever got with my '81 was 26mpg on an 800 mile trip to L.A. and back. Lots of hills and slow driving, used the AC for about 1/4 of the trip and I had yet to disable the EGR.

It is important from a technical perspective to realize that a US gal is not the same quantity as the gallon used in most parts of the world.

1 US gal is approximately 3.8 Ltrs.
1 Imperial gallon is approximately 4.5 Ltrs.

This could contribute to some of what members in the USA refer to as higher than possible miles per gallon figures.

LOL..........amazingly yes. It's the fingers that suffer with the tiny screws that secure the fan.

I drive a 1981 300sd with brand new bosio injectors and all new amsoil fluids everywhere. I also use diesel klean in every tank per spec.

I noticed that my odometer was off so i used a gps when i drove... i would average a reading of 22 miles odometer/24 miles gps. my miles were based on odometer not gps so you can figure out the small difference.

1st tank was 425 miles (ran out of diesel completely on a offramp) Old nozzles filled up with 18.1 gallons = 23.4

2nd was 375 miles filled with 14.9 gallons = 25.1

3rd was 351 miles filled with 12.6 gallons =27.8 (new nozzles were installed) before this tank)

4th was 325 filled with 11 gallons 29.5

I consider my driving pedal to the floor any chance i get... I drive 35 to 40 percent around town 60 percent freeway... 4th tank was more freeway.....

My observation of this data concludes that the engine is performing perfectly. However, if the driver wants to achieve 30 mpg, there's got to be a change in habits. Getting to an honest 30, however, will likely be impossible unless the highway driving improves to 85% of total miles and the diff is changed to a 2.88 or a 2.47.

I drive 100 miles a day round trip to work in SoCal and I am running 75-85 most all the time. I check my mileage every tank and I get between 25 and 26 consistently...Robert

could you possibly post the actual craigslist link, not the search engine data... or, just copy and paste the ad text, thanks!
