i don't know if the turbo on my 300sd ads wishes & unicorn flatulence to the intake charge or what...

i've seen nicer cars than mine in the junkyard, and with severe blowby on #1, stock boost, the alda unscrewed as much as possible without fully removing it, i get over 30mpg highway. this is/was measured several times with gps and google maps making the same trip taking the same route at 70-75mph. maybe some day i'll follow the rules of this thread, but i've got a few witnesses to these trips and the mileage figures. *shrug*

... I'd really have to see this to believe it. verified across 4 consecutive fill ups at the same station and the same fuel pump.

I got 28 out of my 300d once, but that was with no seats, empty trunk, and the alda limiting fuel to pre-boost levels

Now why would you bother with some actual data based upon the rules as stated in the OP when you can just come up with any anecdotal, useless statements and call it a day?

i've also made the run from roger beasley volvo in austin, up to arlington in under 2 hours...including stopping for gas real quick. that was in my volvo 745ti on 11 pounds of boost & piston slap on cylinder #3. she might have been able to make the kessel run in 12 parsecs. i'm not sure. if you do that math, it's an AVERAGE of 95mph. can you say LUCK?

i know i know...brool story co. but it's my day off and i'm in a fantastic mood.

Currently, I am knocking down 26-27 mpg and logging 1,100 miles a week. If I am fortunate enough to get the W126 Annular Axles, and get the 2.47:1 diff back together soon, and hopefully my R107 speedo (1155 cable count) will be reasonably close, I can post my new fuel economy numbers!!!!

I've always wondered why the race is limited by distance traveled... most races are limited by time...

Continuing with the proper posting of ongoing data:

Documented results:

January 8: 17.93 gal. 539 miles

January 15: 17.93 gal. 551 miles

January 29: 20.06 gal. 580 miles

February 6: 18.08 gal. 540 miles

Total fuel: 74.00 gal.

Total mileage: 2210

Fuel economy: 29.86

Not at all bad in the cold on winter fuel.

Anybody else going to try to match it with proper documentation?

Any SD that gives those kind of numbers is a keeper in my book. I miss mine every time I get to thinking about it. I lucked out with that particular SD as my first MB diesel.

I'm interested. I'll share the numeric figures once I start keeping them. I do make mental note every time I fill mine up and I'm getting around 21-22 MPG combined. Brian Carlton mentioned on page 1 of this thread that he does a lot of coasting to hypermile; how does that affect the transmission? I thought you were not suppose to coast in these cars...

I let the vehicle slow down in gear well in advance of any traffic light or turn. I do not put the vehicle in neutral for this "coasting".

Averaging 28 mpg during the winter. Best of 32 worst being 24. It has worse aerodynamics than the SD.
