617 no electrics

I was working on adjusting the idle speed today and found a few issues with the throttle linkage. Disconnected a few links to figure out which link was catching/dragging. At one point without touching anything the engine would increase in revs rapidly so I kept holding the idle speed down by hand. I hit the stop lever but didn't kill it fully. So I held the idle low and for an unknown reason I ran around and pulled the key instead of killing it using the stop lever. As I killed it the engine was around 2000 rpm.

Now no gp light, no starter noise, no electricity to anything. No fuse was burnt, the battery connection was solid, checked gp fuse and all other grounding points. Checked cluster lights and indicators manually (they work).

So what the heck?

No problems with the starter ever, no grounding issues in the past and I don't have a hand starting switch to manually test the starter.

I'm going out to dinner with my wife and I'm taking the battery and a spare battery I've been meaning to get charged at the parts store.

i would think it's the electrical part of the ignition switch; maybe something broke while you were trying to shut it off. also, you don't need the remote switch to test the starter, just get a length of wire and touch the two connectors inside the black box

check to see if the ignition switch fell off the back of ignition housing. my 84 sd did that once, the screws just came loose.

Well, it fixed itself. I got both batteries checked out and both were fully charged. (both are beginning to let go, but that's another issue).

I plopped one battery in yesterday afternoon (in the rain) and everything acted normally. Started up right away.

Whenever I get to work on the car in the dry (it's still raining) I want to figure out what the heck could've gone wrong.
