87 300TD 124 windshield trim removal
Anyone have experience (know the procedure) removing the black trim on the sides and top of a 124 windshield? I'm looking for a leak. It leaks during hard driving in hard rain. The leak enters the car near the top of the "A" pillar - wetting the cloth molding. Right after I bought the car, I replaced the blower motor with a blower motor from an 87 parts car. And now that old blower is squealing, and I'm going to replace it with a new blower motor. The car's windshield was replaced by the PO. But the installer had globbed the glue. And it required razor trimming the glue globs and cleanly re-install of the lower trim around the mono-wiper. I suspect the glue job on the sides or top may be at fault for the leak. Or maybe a leak through a welded joint on the A pillar. And now would be a good time to address it. Anyway, any advice on trim removal?

How long has it been since you cleaned the sunroof drains?

I've cleaned them a few times. It didn't help. I've been wanting to inspect the glue-globber's work for a long time. And now that I'll be re-replacing the blower motor, it feels like that time has come. I replace the original blower motor right after I bought the car, before I knew about the leak.

Wish I could help. I've had my windshield replaced, but I didn't watch the trim come off.
Good luck

Wireman, I don't see a PM from you under Quick Links. Is there somewhere else to find it? Is the trim pried off using a broad blade and wedges slipped in from the windshield side, vs pillar side? or up from the bottom? Bending issues?

Removing the exterior trim will tell you nothing about the sealing job, the sealant is underneath the windshield, not really around the edges. It might expose rust though.
I would try looking from the inside, you might be able to find where the water comes from when you use a hose or something. |

I have an 85 300 CD The leak I had in the same place was from a rusted drain tube on the front of the sun roof. The drain hose was clear but rust holes in the tube coming off the sun roof pan leaked water. Under the head liner and a real pain to get to.
