124 speaker replacements

Any recommendations for stereo speaker replacements? 2 dash and 2 for the rear doors. Thanks

The front units are an odd size limiting the choice of speaker type, I made a plate that takes a 100mm/4" unit and epoxyed it over the existing hole.

Can you briefly describe the plate? where it attaches to the car and the speaker. Thanks

I made them from the ~2mm thick fixing plate half of the new speakers plastic trim/grille.

I cut it circular at the diameter of the std speakers o/d (from memory115mm?) such that it "dropped" into the existing aperture prior to glueing.
I used 4 short countersunk screws (M4x8) to form studs to secure the speaker chassis, these studs must be as short as possible i.e. one speakerlug + one plain washer + one nut long, too much will clang on the underside of the speaker grille.

I think they are panasonic two unit speakers, not expensive (£20) but quite adequate which ended up staying in there.

Sounds interesting - and got me thinking about just doing two - and hearing how it goes.
