Need Help Identifying, Finding, and Buying Bilstein Comforts
hey all, i'm trying to get a complete set of bilstein comfort shocks for my w123. the only online dealers i'm finding either don't have comforts and don't know what they are or have the standard shocks listed as comforts.
are the standards comforts? i had comforts on my 300D and they were yellow and blue (and it rode like butter...). the standard is listed as OEM replacement and black. one website even had the rear shocks labeled as comforts but the part number corresponded with HDs. i called bilstein USA in NC and the guy i spoke to didn't see anything called comforts, just HD and standard. i'm looking for part numbers that are 100% guaranteed to be the front and rear comforts and/or a place online to order them that are 100% guaranteed to to be the comforts and not the standard or HD. and yes, i want comforts, most definitely, not the HDs. my spine and disks don't care about the performance aspect, they want softness! thanks!

Easy
This is easy. Call Phil. I had the same issue when I was looking for comforts for the 87 Champagne.

I might have been under the impression that "Standard" was Comfort.

Bilstein changed their numbering scheme a while back. I think the numbers above are correct. JHZR2 had some Q's about the Bilstein installation as compared to the FSM a while back. He ended up doing a DIY. Linked here: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/85880-doing-front-shocks-tomorrow-my-technique-right-3.html
The B36-0703 was the old number, new number is 24-007030 Info taken from here: http://www.bilsteinus.com/uploads/tx_templavoila/BilsteinAppGuide308_13.pdf |

I was as well but the Bilstein shocks I put in the 300D are not comfortable. I don't have the part number since I tossed the box ages ago. Hopefully I can find the packing slip somewhere in my box of car papers to see a part number.

Standard=comfort.
Bilstein only makes two set of shocks for the w123, standard and HD. Touring/comfort/standard are all the same shock, (I think Bilstein uses "Touring"), but the 0703 and 0713 F/R should be close to factory original ride. And I agree that this is the best ride on most of the older cars. MB had an almost patented ride for many years that was at once very compliant yet handled well. When you change the dampener settings on the shocks, the cars lose some of their unique characteristic that makes them a Benz. Just my .02, of course. |

Also, FWIW, none of these cars came from the factory with Bilsteins. They came with BOGEs. Those are also available as replacement shocks.
But I have a set of each on my bench, (Bilstein comfort and BOGEs for w123), and I can't tell the difference by hand compressing/rebounding them. So they are extremely close if not identical. |
