Pick'n Pull find: W123 wagon with manual transmission

I noticed this W123 wagon in the Portland North Pick'n Pull today... I thought it worth mentioning on the board because it had some markings that suggested that it was a grey market import, and it had a four-speed manual transmission mated to a six cylinder gas engine. Perhaps it has the holy grail of a 38 pound flywheel? Are the flywheels generally interchangeable between gassers and diesels? The odometer said 215k, I think, and one of the metal tags seemed to indicate it was an '85.

you should go back, and get the bumpers and the lights, and the dash wood, with switches...

Nope, gas and diesel flywheels are totally different.

Yeah, I was kind of wishing that I had taken the time to grab the headlights. They'd probably bolt into my 240D, wouldn't they?

yup. or you can sell them for buco bucks.

but for crimeny sake! go get the bumpers, at least the REAR bumper... it's TOTALLY rare.

Anytime I find a euro. Pull everything euro. Same thing with 4 speeds. Someone out there needs the stuff.

Great Find Kurt, Iam in Tigard now and should make it to the North PNP on Sunday. If the trans is still there, it will be in my grubby little hands, along with the shifter and shift rods, peddle assy and what ever else we get off it. only so much room in the 240 to haul back to Calif.

Too bad the FW is different for the gasser.

We need one for a 240D and hopefully this will fit right in.

... a shame to pull the stuff for the 4 speed on this car, and put it in a 240... the 240 4speed is totally common, and all the rods and things will be nearly perfect for a 300... which is quite rare.

the shifter rods, and driveshaft front section should certainly be preserved for a 300...

Well I do have at home, 240D shift rods and 240D drive lines etc. so If we do pull this stuff, the drive line off this car would not be cut or the shift rods.

Down the road, we may put a 617 turbo in it and then these parts will be used for that swap. so no parts will be hacked, I know the shortages of these valuable parts.

Lately I have not seen very many 240D manual trans come through our yards, so always on the prowl for them.

I believe that even the 280 4 speed shift rods need to be modified to work with a 617.

You know... I need a hood and two front fenders for just such a white W123 wagon. If they are undamaged, I wonder how much trouble it would be to pull them and ship them to me? Would it be cost prohibitive?

My wagon sure needs a facelift.

hmm... the front uses same parts as sedan... surely you can find one a tad closer to you than oregon.
there is a white 123 wagon in the PNP in charlotte, with unmolested hood, fenders etc... at least it's closer to you.

I'd scan closer yards if I were you though. three steel body panels are bulky and heavy...
