Creative Power Seat Switch Fix

5-6 years ago, when I purchased my '82 SD, I noticed that the passenger seat recline function was inoperable - sure enough, the little control mast had been snapped off on the door switch so I did a repair using JB weld and a small screw - well it broke again and I realized that the base was too small to be effective (remain anchored) so I used a roofing nail this time which was a perfect fit and the much larger base should remain anchored nicely - we shall see. I would have preferred to find a donor but no time - in the meantime, cleaned all the contacts carefully and had to cut the wires as my switches are hard wired versus plug type. Tomorrow, I will use male/female butt connectors, reconnect all the wires and hopefully have a fully functioning seat again - after that, the driver side will be cleaned as well. I have new door conduits (rubber bellows) for vac/wiring that passes from chassis through door - might as well replace while I am in there. It is a very satisfying feeling to know that many features on these cars can be repaired/restored with a little effort -infinitely repairable. In my mind, MB's are very "green" as they are both well built and built to last therefore, they can be road worthy for a long time eliminating the need to buy new. My last new Benz, a 98 e300 needed a passenger airbag sensor - the quote to repair was outrageous so I happily returned to the early 80's cars . . .
