servo oil cooler 300SD ..?

hi guys

I notice that 300sd has no line that goes from servo pump to the
dedicated oil cooler and from it to servo itself.

during the swap of 617 to 500sec coupe chassis guys kept that
option so I have now servo oil cooler but the problem is that A/C is in
that corner and everything is so tight on the chassis and I can not
access A/C lines, also rubbing of the multiple lines is issue...

do I really need that servo oil cooler or I can dismantle it and forward line
from servo pump directly?

video:

upper.mp4 - YouTube

cheers

Can you explain what you mean by 'servo pump'? It's not a term used often on here.

Judging by the video, I'd say he's referring to the power steering pump.

To my knowledge these cars were never outfitted with a power steering pump cooler of any sort.

Engine Oil and Transmission yes but not a power steering cooler.

The finger in the video seems to be pointing to the oil cooler lines going from the oil filter housing to the cooler.

yeap,.. power steering pump,...we call it simply servo pump.

the other part (pointed by finger) we call servo head.

nope, those are lines going from power steering pump (S shaped hose)
down to separated oil cooler (non existent on 300sd and placed under front bumper) and back to steering head.

That is the engine oil cooler.

I suggest you leave it alone, unless the hoses are leaking.

The video is somewhat blurry, so I suppose that trick you guys
it is not a engine oil ( I disconnect a hose and ATF is looking at me )

it is a relic from SEC but I would like to cut that out because of
space and hose rubbing ...... also engine shakes are easily transferred
over that harness...

the cooler itself is located on the front side of the front bumper
and is 1 meter U shaped pipe basically...

That's a new one on me. When were power steering fluid coolers added to these cars and why?

The v8 models have it due to the higher sustained rpms during high speed driving = excess heat in the steering system is my guess. It actually does dissipate heat...the one on my 420 gets pretty warm after a drive.

I love over engineering.
