Any Coupe owners out there? 300CD
Are there any coupe owners out there who have unique problems, or comments about this car?
I like the comfort of the roomy door for the left arm, but think they could have done a better job on the armrest. Question. Is the map pocket different than the sedan?

I think the door pocket is much larger in the coupe. I love mine. The back seat has almost no leg room. I like my seat about 3/4 of the way back. If I put it all the way back(like I sometimes do) there is about 1 inch of leg room for the sorry soul in the back. Hell, what do I care? I don't ride back there. I can't think of anything special right now. If you get back to me with a specific question, I will give you my experience with it. andy

Andy,
I'm looking to replace my 190E 2.6 with either a 300SD or a 300CD. I like the looks of the 300CD better than the 300SD, but I am worried about the rear leg room of the CD. When you have the seat extended 3/4, how far back is that? Are you tall, or do you just like to stretch out? I have two teenagers that I ferry to school each morning and I was hoping to give them more room than the 190E.

rear legroom
Michael,
I have a nine year old and a seven year old,who barely have enough leg room in our CD.It is a great car,and very fun to drive especially with the windows and sunroof open(remember no pillars). But if you're worried about legroom especially for teenagers,I would go for the SD. Pete P.S. How far is that school(walk)? ;-) |

coup:
What's not to like?
I'm 6'6" and the seat is always full back and tilted. I love it. As for the person behind me. there isn't one.It would be tuff to slip a brief case back there. Nice big doors. Great body lines. And 25 to 28 miles to a gallon in comfort. Charlie |

It's about 25 miles to get the kids to school, so I read your replies about legroom with dismay. But... we will have the house up for sale in a month or so. We would like to buy a house within a few miles of school. I guess that leg room for the kids won't be much of an issue. If they don't like it, they can ride their bikes.:p
They love the styling of the coupe as well as I. I have not been up close to one yet though. If there is anyone here in southeast Michigan with a coup, please contact me. I'd like to see it. I've had the 2.6 for a while now, and I've got the itch to get another diesel. It's been about 10 years since I had my '75 300D. I also want something with alittle more legroom and a bit wider. I'm looking for a no-rust vehicle south of the rust belt. If anyone runs across one, let me know! mlafleur@visteon.com mplafleur@peoplepc.com

I think the coupe is a three pax car at best.
Moraine The comment on parking so close to the drivers door, that's the truth, huh...People. I really don't think people have any idea as to the age of these coupes. They have such classic lines and chrome, that people still assume they are snooty rides or something... Speaks well for their styling. Hell, I don't know. I just know they are pretty things, and fairly comfy. Just wish they were a bit quieter, but it could be worse considering the engine. Has anyone had success replacing the rear window gasket without breaking this rather expensive window?

I like the 3 passenger thought. I drive, a friend in the passenger seat no more than half way back and someone behind them. Thats how I usually do it. Beautiful car.

Any coupe owners out there?
I have a 79 300cd. I think that this car is truly something special. I've had it now for six months and it still fascinates me. When I'm driving it, it really makes me realize how much character the mercedes diesel has. Most people think that my car is a mid 80's car. My 300cd only has 93k on it. If what you guys say about these being 400-500k cars is correct, I will be passing this car along to my grandkids. By the way, some of the guys on this forum have mentioned getting 25-30 mpg. I'm only getting around 20mpg. Maybe I'm calculating wrong. How big is the fuel tank. Is it 18gallons or 21 gallons? The back does have inadequate leg room, but I rarely have backseat passengers anyway. All in all, the 300cd is one of the most beautiful cars ever produced IMHO.

I have had my '85 300cd for two years and use it as my daily driver, 174000 miles. I have found it to be very dependable and in need of some deferred maintenance A/C compressor and I am in need of a driver's door, the bottom has toooo much rust and the window regulator rattles when closing. If anyone knows or hears of a door that is available (White?) let me know. The car is from Atlanta and has some minor rust here and there but that will be taken care of with a new paint job.
The thing that nags me is the Air filter bracket, what is the best fix?

I've got one of each (2.6, CD & SD), I believe the 2.6 would be the better choice over the CD for packing the scholars. You can get enough room on the passengers side, but if you need the leg room while driving, no one will be behind you!
The coup IS the COOLEST by far. If you don't like the sound of the diesel, look for a 280CE. Same car, just different running gear (DOHC, gasoline). I've only seen a couple of them, there's one thats been listed in the last two issues of Road & Track. It's a '79 with 61K miles and it's going for $13,900!! huh?? I guess you can ask anything you want///Getting it is another thing! Here's what my BLEU looks like. Good luck on what ever you decide. Let us know what you do. Ernie |

300CE
Is your handle (300CE) a typo? or do you have both? If you are referring to the air cleaner on the diesel, I am having the same problem. There is no bracket on mine though. My problem is the small rubber isolators are broken, and the air cleaner is bouncing around, and buzzing. When I took it off to replace them, I found that the threads for them, which are threaded directly into the cast aluminum intake manifold (no bracket) are stripped! So now it is off to a NAPA store to buy a Helicoil kit, and rethread. Am also thinking about putting a high polish on this aluminum air cleaner!

Ed Thank you for your help.
Are the rubber widgets a design flaw on the car? It seems that everyone has the same problem and no one has a permanent fix. The handle is correct, I have both an '85 300cd and '93 300ce a daily driver and a Sunny day driver. I guess an other could have been 300 coupe. The 300cd it seems to give me the most grief because I'm in it the most, driving from San Diego to LA once a week.
