Royal Pain in the A$$

Replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders. I do not know how MBZ designed it nor they have repairabilities designed in. There is very little room to do anything, especially the slave cyl. Why didn't they used cable instead of hydraulic? I would expect cable don't go wrong unless it snaps. Bleeding the circuit is also a PITA job from below.

I wouldn't be able to do all this without the Haynes manual. My fun little car is back on the road now - until the next issue just like any old car.

Yeah, I don't get the big advantage of hydraulic clutches, unless you just can't make the cable go where you need it to go. My VWs with cables are easy as pie. The times I have had to bleed 240Ds have been no fun.

Bleeding these 240`s and 300D`s is a hair pulling event.

My 82 Datsun Diesel (in sig) has a hyd clutch. It has it`s own clutch master on the firewall like the brake master. then the line runs down to the slave on the trans. In my 31 yrs of ownership, I have never had a bleeding problem with it, just bleed it like the brakes. top down.

The slave on both vehicles are similar, mounted to the side of the trans.
Iam thinking the problem is with the MC, the length of the rod, (two lengths) and or the ecentric where the rod bolts to the clutch lever. maybe it`s the hole inside the MC that lets the fluid enter/return back to the reservor is blocked, is what is giving the headachs.

That you tube video where the guy does the demo with the oil can, he fiddles with the rod to get the bubbles to blow into the reservor.
