Hanomag

1969 Mercedes Van Hanomag

If only,
Clean house,
roof done,
240D done,
clean garage

Probably a 200d or 220d. It might be rusty, especially sitting on dirt in that environment, but definitely worth a look.

That is front wheel drive?

kerry 05-07-2012 12:08 PM

Yep, front wheel drive. Talked to a Frenchman who owned one as a motorhome. Said he had consistent issues with front end parts having to be replaced. Not sure exactly what parts but either suspension or steering parts. I got the impression this was a common problem with those models.

I am calling this guy to get details because I am seriously interested in this van if it is FWD.

Kerry-- I'd like to talk to your Frenchman/contact on this car and parts.

kerry 05-07-2012 12:39 PM

The Frenchman was 10 yrs ago. Best source for parts is Euro Car Parts | The UK's Number 1 Provider of Car Parts Online and In Store. Patrick was the export guy the last time I used them.

Good luck! But as someone mentioned, look very CAREFULLY for serious rust underneath. Any vehicle parked for years on grass-dirt is going to rust badly down there, and I'm not just talking about fuel-brake lines... Hopefully those Hanomag vans have hefty frame members...

Yeah, I can imagine that with the weight of the engine in front, this vehicle would have regular front-end maintenance issues. Plus when it came out, FWD was probably not a very common thing, and possibly new design for MB??
