Howto: 722.303 transmission removal from an '82 300SD
I successfully pulled the transmission (722.303) out of my '82 300SD yesterday.
I followed this howto, which was a good start, but omits a few critical steps (such as removing the starter prior to dropping the transmission). I also used my Chilton manual for pointers, but it's even worse. I still need to drop the transmission on my '83 300SD, since I intend to swap in the '82 transmission. Would you folks be interested in me taking a bunch of pictures and updating/fleshing out the above linked howto? I've looked for others, but the only one I found has all its pictures broken, and no instructions (and it's for a 300TE).

Wow, what an enthusiastic response. Surely I'm not the only person around here crazy enough to want to pull a 300SD's transmission ... Well, I'm going to post the link to my writeup anyway. Pulled Riker’s (the ’82) transmission | Braindump

This is a good thread. I have some challenges with my 380Sl transmission and the ATSG manual has been hugely helpful. I'd recommend these manuals to anyone with transmission issues of any kind.
Of course it was Roy H who put me on to the manual! Also agree on the challenge of getting the vehicle high enough to work on underneath to do any work of substance. I had my jackstands at maximum just to adjust the vac modulator valve. Thanks again for the write up. |

You're welcome! This was actually my wife's idea -- she suggested I "give back" to the forums which have been so much help to me over the years.

You're welcome. I hope it helps someone go to less effort than I did.
