I nominate myself...

...for a darwin award. This morning I was half asleep and in a huge hurry, started the 69' 220D and instantly backed out and took off. This car takes a solid 5-7 seconds for ful oil pressure to be achieved, around 5 seconds the oild pressure needle shoots up from 0 to 45. So I know I drove the car with little to no oil pressure. I was telling my girlfriend about this, and she says she's done it 5-6 times, take off without letting the car gain full oil pressure. In my car. So... I know this can't be good, any ideas of how much I may have damage the rings/cylinders/etc after a few times taking off this way?

So you are saying oil pressure is solid instantly?

It builds throughout the engine within a couple seconds....its still good to wait a few seconds before pulling away though, whats the rush?

I always give my engines at least a good 10 seconds before pulling away.....

I wouldn't call it a Darwin Award scenario. You're free to kick yourself a few times if you like though.

We all do dumb things. Hopefully, you've not done any damage. I agree with pawoSD; give it a few before taking off.

Gotta let them idle up before takeoff, and idle down before shutoff.

Don't beat yourself up. We all do Darwin-eligible stuff from time to time.

However, you may want to gently reinforce the necessity to wait a few secs to your SO. My observation would be that if women own up to doing something "sometimes" it's usually a bit more often than that

Seeing how most of the women in my office jump into their cars, turn the key and immediately blast off out of the parking lot at day's end, even at -20, well....

on the 61x engines, there are o-rings on the oil filter shaft that seal things better for quicker pressure readings etc...
does the 220 have a similar feature?
