Spring compressor on Ebay

You know you want it.
Mercedes Benz W140/W123/W124/W126 Coil Spring Compressor Set | eBay

TheDon 05-14-2012 09:48 AM

who makes it?

charmalu 05-14-2012 10:12 AM

Taiwan.

These are nothing new, been sold on e-bay for quite a while. these are a knock off of the German Klann compressor. they are usually in the $200 range with shipping.

Whan ever the price, well worth in the the safety aspect of removing these MB springs.

I didn't post that on ebay, was just browsing and thought I'd post it. Can't speak to the taiwanese knock-offs, but that style of compressor is the only safe way to get the front springs off.

FWIW, didn't we have a discussion about the non-Klann compressors that had broken while they were being used?

I have one of those, and use it regularly, they are mid level quality = durability is a few hundred springs, then junk it and buy a new one.

The KLAN tool durability is good for thousands of springs:
* Mine has been demolished by (idiot) coworker using a 3/4 impact gun on it = forced them to replace it.
* Mine was stolen recently, and will not be replaced at $1,300.00 USD.

I use and rent the clone like this one, I figure after 50 springs, I'll recycle it and get a new one. I also have the Klann tool, and WOW it's a much finer tool, nearly identical to the clone, but a higher grade of steel, and slightly thinner body. I use the Klann exclusively on my own projects. and will loan out either one, but of course, the Klann has a much higher deposit... and it fits inside the 123 shock tower without grinding on the tower.

That's good to know... for the average DIY person on the forum it will be perfect.

I have that Ebay type one also and for the one time I used it it paid for itself.
Whunter! - A hundred springs! I won't live that long.

Although I had to grind a little on my 300D towers to get one side to fit in
through top hole. Probably should have ground down the tool instead.

Do you got a front end shop you use if you swap out the parts on someones ride there in NC?

I'm working on lining one up.
there is a place that will line up MB's for 79.00, and I'm going to drop off my 126 to see how they do. if I like them, I'll recommend them to others.
