Strange Tranny leak

Hi hope i can find some help. I have a 82 300td wagon. I had a transmission leak that was pouring out form the pan. So I changed out the gasket and filter and the minute I added fluid it just began running out.
Upon further inspection, and frustration, I tracked the leak to a small hole(opening) which is just above the center pan bolt on the housing, passengers side. using a mirror and flashlight it looks like it is NOT threaded. Might there be some sort of plug that popped out...Myself and a fellow mercedes tinkerer both have no idea what the hole is for. Can anyone help me? It just pours out.

thanks
Marty

The picture is of a 722.3 for an '87 300D so it won't be identical to yours.

Your image didn't come through. Set the image file URL (www.xxx.jpg or www.xxx.bmp) within [img] [/img] tags as I did so it shows as an image in your post. You can usually get the image file URL by right clicking on an internet picture and selecting Copy image URL. The prospect of copyright infringement is for your conscience to resolve. I never claim images to be mine unless I used my camera

That looks very close to where the working pressure test port is...

I guess that would squirt quite some fluid out.

MartyMan your attachment does not seem to exist - can you try again?

(If it is the working pressure test port then it should be a threaded hole - if the threads have been cross threaded and stripped out though... hmmmm)

It is right next to if not the pressure test port position

It is really difficult to see in your second picture if the hole is threaded though.

I've got a spare 722.3 transmission in my garage at the moment that I can go and check for you. Only problem being is the place is a mess so it will take me a bit of time to dig it out. I'll try and do it today or tomorrow - unless someone else can help of course. (HINT HINT!)

I'm hoping to be able to tell you that you need a M5 / M6 / M8 threaded bolt and a copper / aluminium washer - I didn't get to the back of the garage today.

Does anyone else know the size of the blank on the working pressure test port on a 722.3 / 4?

@MartyMan if nobody can help in time crawl under there with a few different sizes and gently try them out. My guess is that you'll only need normal coarse threaded bolts - I don't think they'd have put fine threaded bolts there... but they will be metric!

yeah, I've got one on the stand at my door right now.
I'll go pull the plug and see what thread it is.

I have a pin poking through the transmission in that location... not a bolt.
Me thinks you need to have the transmission down to look for parts inside the trans...
should I take pics of mine, and take it apart and see where the pin connects?
