Diff from w124 300d fit into my 350SDL?

I'm starting to get a lot of play in my rear diff on my 350SDL. I have a parts car - 1987 300D w124. It should have the same ratio - will it fit?

W126 and W124 have completely different suspension setups. It won't work at all.

are you sure? I was under the impression that in 86 the 126 got the same diff as the 124's did. and the subframe was upgraded to handle it.
