95 e300d new exhaust pics

The guy cut and welded a merge to connect the exhaust manifold to the Magnaflow diesel cat. He welded a flange to the cat so it could bolt up to the center OEM muffler. The center muffler is clamped to the rear OEM muffler. The special mercedes-only muffler gasket fits between cat and center muffler.

The reason this was all replaced was that the tailpipe rusted off. There was other serious rust on the pipes from the cat back. The old set up rattled a lot. No sound difference, no mileage difference, but it accelerates better at highway speed. Going from 60 - 80 is much faster now.

I have used this exact same CAT, but the merge collector in my car is a little ham handed I would say and makes the cat sit about 6 inches to the rear. This flange is supposed to be present in the exhaust for easy servicing, was it missing on your car?

any pricing on the mufflers?..

The replacement cat was shorter than the original cat. The guy added a piece to the back of the cat and welded on the old 3-bolt flange so it could mate up with the center muffler.
costs:
Magnaflow diesel cat: $100 from Advance Auto or Autozone (I found an internet coupon for $40 off)
Center muffler: $294
Rear muffler: $310
Installation: $180

Mufflers and rubber hangers purchased from Peachparts. The cost of an oem replacment cat was outrageous.
Total around $890.

Good job, thanks. I'll keep this for future use, if and when.

I have heard that it is pretty easy to clean the original huge CAT with some organic acid solution, never done it though.
