CompressorWorks R4 NLA???

VStech and I figured out my R4 compressor main casing o-rings are shot and so I need a new one. It escaped the leak detector when we recharged it two weekends ago, but after it died again after 3 days, I went back up there last Saturday. We pressured up with CO2 and R22 and the detector started going crazy.

E-mailed Phil and he says the CompressorWorx R4 is no longer available.

He offered two options, a rebuilt R4 or a new R4 from Air Products, Inc.

Anyone have any experience/opinions on either of these?

New one is $50 more than rebuilt, both have 1 yr warranty.

A new Behr R4 compressor is only $240. I would go new if you have the cash.

In my experience, when it comes to R4's new is always better. Many other compressor types are reliably rebuildable, but I have not been convinced of that with the R4.

The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated...

False alarm, found out that Phil had cross referenced my car somehow to a Yorkie. The CWKS R4 is alive and well. The Yorkie is NLA from CWKS.

Compressorworks purchased by Standard Motor Products

I thought perhaps it was a hiccup in production as they ramp up post-acquisition labeling and marketing materials. Good to know there are R4s are still in the pipeline.

yup, I put his brand new CWKS R4 in this morning and charged it up with fresh R12, and it's blowing ice cubes!
