Another 1992 W124 300D off the road, Insurance value?

I finally get just about everything sorted out on my car after two years and i was rear ended this morning. I was just getting on the highway behind a few cars and semi-truck and the guy behind me getting on the ramp was up to speed while the rest of us were just about stopped. I'd guess he was at 40+ mph and i was at maybe 5mph. Funny thing is his 2001 Chevy Impala was just scratched with some minor dents. I have a sore neck but other than that both the other driver and I are fine.

Any tips when speaking with the adjuster? I have a feeling i will begin the fun trying to establish the value since i am guessing the car will be considered a total loss.

The interior looks brand new, paint is great with no rust on the car. I replaced the head gasket and had the head machined, rebuilt transmission, new tires...

where are you located? the vehicle has great potential as a donor vehicle.

I actually have the same color in a 93 that needs everything in front of the rear wheels...

Illinois tags on the car.

Do the rear doors open? It looks like the crumple zone functioned as designed.

Get to a Dr. If he hit you going 40 you have a neck injury. I'm sure the settlement on the pain and suffering will help make you whole on the car.

The doors open up like nothing happened, the gap is still even around the rear doors. The car performed just like it was designed to, folding where it should. After waiting an hour for the tow truck that never showed up I ripped off part of the bumper and drove home. It still drives just as nice as it did before the accident.

I live just west of Chicago and will soon be looking for a replacement. Depending on the buyout $ it should make for a fantastic donor car.

Heck, install some tail lights for a trailer on the back and drive it. Glad to hear you were not hurt anymore than you were. I hate to see the diesel w124's taken off the road.

Ditto on the doctor. Find a lawyer who is WELL versed in upper cervical spinal injuries and is not afraid to go to court AND has a record of winning personal injury cases. Ask for their wins/losses record involving personal injury. Most lawyers are nothing more than a settlement machine looking to make a quick and fast deal. You need a pit bull, one who isn't afraid to play hard ball with the 'we really don't want to pay you a dime' insurance boys.

Also, look for a chiropractor who has a full motion DMX X-ray machine and access to MRI imaging. You will need all the ammunition you can get when proving injuries. There are other thermal imaging tests that can be performed to determine the extent of your injuries. You may feel "fine" today, but in six months you may need pain meds and ongoing chiropractic care just to function. Get checked out NOW.

another note on this; when suffering a crash of this magnitude, most people suffer a state of shock which means the ability to drive safely may be impaired. best to take a ride in an ambulance rather than risk driving a severely damaged car which may not be safe to operate.

Total loss. Sorry. There is an impound close to my work for total-loss insurance cars, very large impound. I have seen newer cars in there with MUCH less damage.

To the OP, sorry for your loss. That's too bad.

You needed to hook the ECOdiesel's underbody up to one of those big trees and then have the pickup yank on it. That should yielded a much better result.
