Happy 16th Birthday Daughter

Last night, I gave my oldest daughter the key to this car along with some "New Car" scent trees. She also liked the AAA bag full of stuff --- jumper cables, first aid kit, warning triangle, flashlight, etc.

Overdue an update

Well, the 16 (now 17) year old daughter decided she didn't want to drive an old Mercedes. Her mom bought her a 2010 Ford Fusion hybird.

My 11 (almost 12) year old daughter said she would take the car. Anyway, since I don't want to park my driving car outside this winter, I made some progress yesterday.

Man, folks are driving younger these days.

Not getting what you did, other than clean and organize.

Cleaning and organizing is very important, especially in my garage. I have two cars in my garage, but one is in boxes of parts. Ha Ha.

The water pump housing and bolts are missing in the second pic. Do you know how difficult it is to re-install it and get that paper gasket on the back side? Sheesh!!!! I'm glad I don't have to do that again.

Exclamation Three Years

I hope it hasn't been sitting all this time.....

This is a fascinating thread , informative and educational too .

I'm amazed a child gets to say ' I don't want that one ' to their first car .

I'm surprised by that as well. As a kid, I'd loved to have a big sturdy w123.

Pfff, when I got my drivers license, I scraped all my hard earned cash together that I got with odd jobs here and there and bought....a rusted out, mid '80's hatch back, four on the floor.

Had to get rid of it after 10 months, as the body was bending in the middle, what with not having any rocker panels to speak off.

Still miss that manual choke though. It made starting the engine an art. You had to "feel" the engine.
All of my buddies piled into that tiny little thing, struggling to get up to 50mph with all that weight and it's puny 1.1 liter, 54HP engine. Revving it up high in second car and then letting go off the throttle, and then stepping on it again after a few seconds made it backfire LOUD. Could sometimes spot a flame coming out the exhaust.

Good times. Miss that car. Can we turn back time, now?

find out what size it is and just get some banjo to AN fittings and some braided line. should be pretty easy to find and not too much $, id start by looking at oil lines for turbos, i know my other cars turbo feed is m12.5banjo to an6 with braided in the middle and was about 30 bucks from ebay.

See what Professor turns up?

https://www.belmetric.com/metric-hoses-metric-banjo-bolts-and-fittings-c-14_850.html

I'll do something similar with the oil line between the Vac/PS pump and block on the Cummins. A little crappy line is over $40.

And in mine, the issue is I have a parts wagen in the back yard and always forgetting my tools, especially when it up and rains... Plus, my garage is a one car, so need to so my service dog can get out comfortably (prefers to turn around the door than by the wheel). So that I did recognize. Thought the water pump, but then looked like there was still hardware and the fan.

Wow! Didn't know, as last time the body shop did it (stupidly didn't know got messed up in the accident so shot coolant all over the front of the wagen and in the shop). Could you have used a light film of orange R.T.V., just enough to tack it versus glue it?

I wish I had not been given a new car. I didn't appreciate it and drove with low blood sugar and/or tired and when it fish tailed wasn't able to correct. But, the other side of the family said good thing and got rid of the 1980 Toyota Camry (?). Looking back, wish had parked the new and drove used until got more skill. Now owning rear wheel drive, even more hate front wheel and feel unsafe for young drivers (putting on the brakes hard causes the rear wheels to loose grip).

Love the story! Next car I had was junk and had to unload at a stiff loss. But, it was for Miss Mercedes, so very worth it!

Hey Nate ---

Car has been sitting in the garage for well over a year. I hurt my back in Spring, 2014; then .....well, other personal things had to be dealt with; you know, stuff called "life".

Anyway, you will notice that I didn't buy my oldest daughter anything else and there's a reason there........if a child of mine doesn't want something free, then they can wait, save their money, buy whatever they want, etc. You know, sort of how "we" grew up.

Good Story:
My oldest daughter did call me this pass weekend about her low air pressure indicator on her dash (Ford Fusion hybird, I think). Her mom told her to go to the back of Firestone and get air. Ha Ha. She calls me from the back of Firestone (her mom wasn't answering the phone), and I explain to her that she has to go in the front door if she wants Firestone to help her, blah, blah, blah, and unless you bought your tires from there, they will probably charge you. Daughter says, "Mom didn't give me any money, so what am I suppose to do?" I said, "well, if I was in your shoes, I would have gone to the corner gas station and put some quarters in the air compressor, checked every tire and added air appropriately. Of course, if you had an air compressor at home, you could do this at home." I waited for that to sink in.....she says she doesn't know how to do that. I love it when she gives me the perfect opening line.....So, I say, "Huh? Your mom taught you how to drive a car without teaching you how to check and fill air in your tires? I have an air compressor, do you want to come over?" So, I spent the next hour teaching my daughter how to check air pressure and add air.

Regarding the pic --- I received a replacement part about a year ago. It's on the top of the car awaiting installation.
