Cetane ratings on pumps
I have been to about 5 local sations in Baltimore(Mobil, Exxon, etc.) and none of them have cetane ratings on the pumps. When I asked the cashiers, they had no idea what a cetane rating was.

Up here in PA, there are a few stations that post cetane ratings, mostly Hess, at 42. In parts of Northern Virginia I've seen 47's on some of the Amoco premium diesel pumps. It must not be a requirement ... yet.

Here in Oklahoma , Texaco calls their's "Premium Diesel" but posts no cetane number. I actaully get 2-4 mpg better with the corner "mom & pop" station's stuff.

There's a Gulf (remember Le Mans with Steve McQueen) station that sells 45 cetane premium diesel. Its posted...

cetane on pumps
I live in Cleveland, and have never seen a cetane rating on any pumps, whether labeled 'premium' or not. No cashiers to date have had any idea what cetane even is, or whether or not their fuel is winterized, # 2 or #1. I teasingly said to the guy, 'yeah, you dont know, you just work here right?" and he said 'yeah, exactly'......
Typical! |
I've never pumped diesel from a pump that didn't have the cetane number posted. Maybe it's a law in NY, who knows. Mobil diesel is rated 40 and Hess diesel is rated 42 "2-D". I'd love to get some of that 45 or 27 rated stuff but haven't been able to find any near here.
