Smoked while driving.

Hello all...
Went on a about a 2.5 hr drive on Friday (camping at on a high cascade lake) with my 95 E300d. Drove fine, no issues, got to my destination and stayed for the weekend. Didn't start it back up till Sunday. Got ready to go then went out to warm it up before i left (another 2.5 hr drive home). Started up fine, ran for a while (purred like normal), then heard an odd idle. Kinda sounded like an engine knock. Shut it down till i finished getting ready. Started it back up and took off, sure to not get on it and let it warm up. Got down the road a ways, looked in the mirror and its pouring out bluish white smoke, not a ton but enough to notice. Engine sounds fine, running fairly normal, in the middle of nowhere with out cell reception so i continue hoping it doesn't break down!! Babying it along the way and eventually it stops and has since run fine. Getting great mileage, 32mpg mixed driving.

What could cause this? It doesn't smoke any other times, this is the first! Sticky injector maybe? Any thoughts?

Thanks to everyone

Had you purchased any fuel before OR while traveling?

Possibly some mositure in the fuel?

Do you have a water seperator on the fuel system?

Was it a very wet weekend?

And X2 on the fuel

I had just filled up the tank before i left on Friday.... It was a rainy weekend, even saw some snow but was dry when i left to head home. I don't have any water separator system on the car, i assumed that the filter would take care of that... Why would this make a difference?

Thanks
Aaron

What altitude did you ultimately get to...?

Shelcob 06-26-2012 10:48 PM

~4500 feet...

Although this is for bio-diesel...

...there's a link here

Biodiesel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

that talks about too high water content in bio-diesel.

A similar thing happens to water in "real" diesel too - you get smoke along with reduced performance blah blah blah. Water doesn't combust like diesel!
