School me on W140 diesels

May be looking at a 93 diesel s class.

Don't know if it is a 3.0 or 3.5 yet. The owner hasn't gotten back to me.

247k on it.

Are there any common problems for these years or could I expect it to be as reliable as the w126 OM603 diesels??

Search. There is lots of info on them. These cars are noted to have many issues.

The A/C evap inside the car is prone to leak on the W140 chassis. It is VERY expensive to fix and is a royal PITA even if you do it yourself. I am not actively looking for a W140. But if one comes along with working A/C and the price is right then I would go for it.

Pretty much everybody that read the title of your thread had the 9 letters above pop into their head. Should say plenty.....

However, (oh dear, gulp), if the rods were going to bend they generally have done it by now. [247K] If you can verify it doesn't hemorrhage oil and compression is fine and even.....
Still don't do it!!! Too much to constantly break on the W140!!

didn't they come with the 3.0 and the 3.5

I know about the rod bending issues on the 3.5 but I was under the impression that they came with both in it.

That being said the 3.0 in my 87 runs great and could swap right in

But if there are many other issues maybe i'll back away for now.

The w140 chassis is my favorite out of all MB

Maybe i'll revisit it at a later time.
