99 e300 shock replacement- sachs boge or bilstein?
my understanding is the sachs boge are the original mercedes shock that should be on it?
i am not looking for a firm or harsh ride and i was not happy with bilsteins on my trucks, they were too harsh to me i do want the car to tighten up some, it is floaty and any weight in the trunk and it seems to bottom out, my suspension shop felt i needed shocks not springs the car has 156,000 on it and i do not see any paperwork where the shocks were replaced but i am not sure i am leaning toward the sachs shocks |

I have Bils Sports on mine and I love them. Then again, I like a sporting ride. I would suggest Bils Comforts.

thanks for the replies
here is another couple of questions am i right that the sb shocks are the original mercedes shock? and what is the reasoning behind so many people swapping over to bills comforts instead of just using sb again? i am guessing that people who go to the sport bills wanted a tighter ride but between sb and bills comfort what is the difference, etc? |

I used Sachs struts in my 300E and a friend of mine did the same. I like them, and they are comparable to the Bilstein struts. Personally either brand would have been a good choice.

The E300 gets taken on 8,000 to 11,000 mile 4 or 5 week road trips where it has ALWAYS BROKEN DOWN more than 2,500 miles from home!!! Every Freaking Time! Been stranded 3 times in 40 years and twice in the last two years by the Mercedes. Think I made a mistake a huge freaking mistake with this car. And yes, I over-maintain my cars and all failures were without warning signs. I digress, the Mercedes could never handle the way I would like it to so I went for comfort for the ultra smooth ride with the Michelins and Bils Comforts and yes I replaced the stock stocks before they were showing signs of failure.

SB was the stock shock.
Bili Sports were too short to fit on the front end of mine. They fit the rear. Had to use Comforts up front. When new, the stiffer shock made the rear feel like a toyota tuner car on the freeway......

I would give you a review on the Koni adjustables that I installed, but alas, my bearings are the likely culprit of my suspension woes. Add to that the absolute garbage road surfaces here in SoCal and I'm afraid that there is no way of telling just how well one's suspension is functioning.
