1999 E300 Codes thrown

I've finally got the OBDII codes pulled. I've yet to have the SDS system read, but maybe these will give some insights on whats going on with with my car,

I have:

P0600 Serial Communications link

P0702 Transmission Control System Electrical

P0725 Engine Speed Input Circuit

Any ideas?

First thing I'd do is pull the TCM and see if it or the socket is wet with ATF. If so replace the pilot bushing on the front right of the transmission (get it from the dealer, the aftermarket ones are junk), spray some electrical contact cleaner spray down the harness and in the socket (leave the plug disconnected at the the transmission to rinse it out) and pop the actual TCM out of the plastic cover and clean it with the spray. When it's all dry, reassemble, then clear the codes, rest shift adaptations and see if it's all better.

If that doesn't do it or if the TCM is dry, replace the conductor plate, clear codes and reset adaptations, and enjoy.

Good luck.

Check the cable/plug that connects the computer to the trans. Basically the right front corner of the trans pan. Seal leaks and allows fluid to wick up the cable ~3' to the computer which fries everything.

I had some pictures at one time. Looking at the passenger side front of the transmission you will see a connector. You may have to move a heat shield. You rotate the outer ring to disengage it. It is a replacement item during transmission service. Disconnect that and see if fluid drains out or you can see where fliud has been leaking out of.

Ignore the pilot bushing/plug on the transmission for the moment. That requires crawling under the car and getting dirty.

The TCM is in the electrical box under the hood over near the duovalve. You can reference this thread over at BW: Transmission Fluid Leak: Connector? - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum That thread also shows where the pilot bushing/adapter is.

The issue at present is not whether the pilot bushing is leaking. It's whether fluid has contaminated the TCM. So inspect the TCM. Easy, quick, clean (unless it's full of fluid).

Very often you won't see a leak. The harness is sealed enough that the fluid moves up the harness into the TCM.

That's why I suggested you pull the TCM and check it first. If you want to check the pilot bushing, you have to unplug the harness connector, which tells you only that you need to replace the bushing. And you will *still* have to check the TCM anyway.

Good luck.
