Engine Stand bolts?
Anyone know what size and length SAE or Metric to mount a OM617 to a engine stand? Need to put an extra motor on a stand to replace bad rod bearing - thanks!

The long alternator bracket bolts work to get through the engine stand and into the bellhousing holes. (617 and gasser 420 sel) you just need four of them...lucky for me I had parts cars. You may have to use some washers as spacers depending on what type of engine stand you have. I am not sure what size or threads they are though. You could take a bellhousing bolt or one of the alternator bolts to a bolt supply store to get more...they would know the size.

More importantly, just changing a rod bearing might not solve your problem.
The other half of the bearing system is the crankshaft. If the journal is out of round, worn too far, a new bearing insert won't do the job. For engines in general, some use soft bearings so if the problem is caught early enough a set of inserts will do the job. Others have hard bearings, for these engines crankshaft wear is a larger issue with new inserts rarely being effective. |
