82 240d Speedometer cable questions

Thanks to all the excellent diy posts on Peachparts I've now fixed my climate control, sunroof, interior lights and am cruising along to the speedometer cable. Having removed the old cable I have verified that the core is broken, which is a relief...but the old cable has the same drive on both ends ie small square pins... I purchased a 'new' cable on ebay with part tag 123-542-03-07 which I believe is for a manual tranny...but the end that mates to the transmission has a wide rectangular pin not a square one. Which is the right one for the 240d manual tranny...my chassis number is 10340102 and the peach parts cable looks identical. And I answered my question, I bought the wrong cable does anyone know where I can find a cable for my car out of stock at fastlane..and does anyone need a nos cable for a low chassis number 240d.. Thanks
Michael

Your 82 240D should take the cable with the square end. part# 123 542 77 07. from chassis 10-219675

early style with the rectangle end, to chassis 10-219674.

Thank you for the pn. Now does anyone have an idea of where can I find one...I called all the autoparts stores within 100miles and none have one. Called MB Billings but closed on Saturday. Peach parts says they don't stock it. guess I will find a plug and wait. FOUND IT. bought a febi 1235427707 on the BAY for 35 bucks. Thanks again this site rocks
