Replacing brake lines

I'm trying to replace the rear brake lines on my 1979 300SD but I can't get the old ones off. I put a wrench on the nut and spun lower metal fitting that's connected to the rubber hose but it's not getting loose. The top nut doesn't look like it's made to unscrew; it looks like it's welded to the assembly.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

The nut that you need to loosen is the one with the metal brake line going through it. That nut is easy to round off, so some penetrating oil and a quality line wrench are suggested. Also take care not to twist the hard line.

Is it the very top nut in the first picture? If so, I'm having a hard time seeing how the replacement hose will connect. It's male on one end, female on the other. Do I just connect it directly to the hard line and bypass that assembly?

Yes. The nut is "captive" on the hard line. It is not part of the hose assembly.

The male end goes into the caliper.

No. The new hose should mount up just like the original one. I suspect that it will be crystal clear once the line nut is loosened/removed from the hose fitting.

Thanks for the help and thanks for the heads up on rounding the nut off.

Ther was a thread on this about 6+ moths ago. 2 of the Members said they uesd a special Vice Grips like the one pictured on Rounded Nuts.

I don't own one like it so cannot comment on if there is enough room for it. But, I have seen them and the come in different sizes.

I sprayed some PB Blaster on them. The shoulders look good. I doubt anybody has tried to remove them. I'll hit with PB Blaster a couple more times and clean it up before I try to unscrew it. That usually does the trick.
I'll see if I can find the thread.

If you can do so safely heating the with a small Butane Torch or a Propan Torch helps to wick in Oil.

The trick is to hold the hard-line fitting fast while you torque on the hose fitting. DO NOT apply rotational force to the hard line fitting or you'll kink the line.
