aux fan pre-resistor workaround?
Not keen on pulling the brake booster under which they buried (what were they thinking?) this resistor in order to replace it. Can anyone recommend a workaround?

elongate the wiring harness and mount it somewhere else.

That's what i had in mind. Was just hoping that someone who has actually done it could guide me -where physically on the car with the least amount of dissasembly - to tap into the circuit.

I have not done it on a MB - but on other cars - mostly jap, mount it near the fan itself - the W124 has it near the dryer - it gets plenty fresh air to cool off and also does not pose a mulch fire hazard.

Thanks, however, again, where physically on the car to tap into the circuit is still the question. Not where to locate the resistor.

'85 300sd aux fan resistor -unresolved
So no one has ever had one of these go bad? Or if it did go bad you went ahead and drained brake fluid, pulled master cylinder and brake booster to get to it to replace it ?!?
Still hoping for a tip on where to best tie into the circuit to circumvent the resistor buried down under.

Looks like both ends of the resistor terminate in the fuse box, which is more accessible than under-the-brake-booster. Find the terminals in the fuse box, cut the wires to the old resistor, attach new wires and route them to a convenient spot (inner fender?) and there mount the replacement resistor.
